Perhaps known more to classical music fans from overseas as a venue for music that gave rise to the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields chamber orchestra,...
2017-08-19 20:42:02Really great atmosphere for lunch or a drink. Food options varied from sandwiches to hot meal items. Definitely recommend a stop here if you have the time.

2022-01-12 07:57:59The name accurately describes what this place is, but it isn't as creepy as it first sounds. Although there are some memorial stones on the floor and on the walls, there are no tombs. The food is a bit pricy for what it is, but the service is fast - useful if you are going to a matinee at one of the many nearby theatres.
a month agoCafé in the Crypt is a unique dining experience located in the crypt of St Martin-in-the-Fields church, which is situated in Trafalgar Square. The café offers a variety of traditional British dishes, as well as a selection of cakes, pastries, and hot drinks. The visitor enjoys the unique, positive atmosphere, decor, and food. Crypt provides a unique and atmospheric setting for a restaurant, prices are generally considered reasonable given the central location. In addition, the staff so friendly and attentive with their service. Overall, Cafe in the Crypt is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something a little different in London's bustling Trafalgar Square area.
5 months agoLovely hidden place but feels a bit like a school canteen with trays left on tables. Also the lift didn’t work when I went and it looked like it hadn’t worked in a while.
3 months agoGreat stop in the Crypt Café for a quick brunch lunch in a hurry. The choices at the counter were a little overwhelming given we were past ‘hangry’ so being indecisive; we went with crumble custard & coffee: a winning combination. Plenty of choice if you are able to make it! The crumble was delicious & plentiful, the custard was smooth, sweet & hot & the coffee (flat white) was flat & white! The staff are friendly at the counters although given the location under St Martins; it can be worth leaving one of your party to find a table if you intend to sit in during busy times as it is often difficult to find somewhere whilst balancing your tray. There is a lift that will take you down into the crypt from street level but it can be deathly slow, so descending the steps gracefully may be preferable.
6 months agoFound this gem of a place on Coronation Day. Traveled from Australia for the special day and could not get into Trafalgar Square. A security guy sent us in to the Crypt and watched the ceremony with a large crowd of happy people. Was a fabulous day, with great food and we even managed to toast the King with a nice Sav Blanc. I think when I left England in 1972 you wouldn’t have been able to have a glass of wine in the Crypt. Thank you for a fabulous day 😀
