Very nice atmosphere. Trust me, the actual restaurant looks so much nicer than the pictures. The food is nice so I went to this restaurant twice. The food on my second visit was too salty to be honest. The portion size is small, c.f. my fist (I’m only 5’3”) in the second photo. Some reminder: don’t order the most spicy one on the curry menu unless your tongue and stomach are as tough as stone. I’m from Szechuan (known for how spicy the food is) and that curry was literally the spiciest thing I’ve ever had in my whole life. As a result I went to a pharmacy to buy medicine for my stomach at 11 pm. Still yum though.
3 months agoFairly busy at 930pm on a Sunday night. The crowd was just finishing up as we were being seated. A pleasant surprise to see the wealth of different menu options that I don't have at my local place in NJ. Slow service but they were just getting over a dinner rush. We ordered appetizers and entrees. Everything was great. I would recommend this place if you're in the area.
4 months agoI had made a reservation for 6PM (opening) and arrived just a bit after, but it was already very full! The atmosphere was great and the service was very prompt and friendly for how busy it was. I got a small tom yum soup as the starter and it was the perfect amount of spice and acidity. The portion was perfect for two! For the main, I had the "Jungle Curry" and it was absolutely amazing. I was warned that it would be spicy, and it did not disappoint. The flavours were on point and it was spicy in a really flavourful way. If you're a fan of spicy food, I'd definitely recommend the Jungle Curry! Overall, great experience! Hands down the best Thai food I've ever had.
6 months agoGreat Thai-food! Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it’s very good. The menu is extensive and not that expensive for Icelandic standards. The service was friendly and the food was very tasty. Watch out for the chilies, hot means hot!
5 months agoThe most famous thai restaurant in Reykjavik and the quality to match. While having never been to Thailand, the flavours at Ban Thai were a league above the award winning Thai restaurants from my hometown of Toronto, a city with a magnitude more people than the entire country in which this small restaurant stands! We had the Jungle Curry, and the warning on the menu is not to be trifled with. I would only recommend to those who laugh in the face of spice.
