Takeout
It was a very nice place. Great atmosphere. Food was also very delicious. The only downside is the price range. But if you are okay with splurging on yourself a bit, this is the place to do it!!
6 years ago(From a visit in June of 2016) After taking a delightfuy quiet, peaceful and sun-free stroll around Tjörnin (Reykjavík's answer to the Stanley Park Seawall), I followed the pathways across the road and into the beautiful University of Iceland grounds, dotted with many types of happy birds, visited one of the buildings I could potentially study at, and almost accidentally interrupted what I gathered to be a Mothers' Day parade. After further perusing my future university, I walked back toward Iceland's Norræna Húsið (Nordic House), where a bistro is located, and was pleasantly surprised to see a bounty of incredible-sounding vegan options on the menu. Naturally, I decided to eat there, and I could not have made a more excellent decision. From the very start, the staff were fantastically helpful. They patiently translated the day's offerings into English for me, quickly replaced the (amazing) bread's butter with oil, herbs and salt, brought me the most beautiful main course and even told me how to say the phrase with which I shall sum up my experience there: Það var dásamlegt. (That was wonderful)
5 years agoVery nice panoramic view on the city, the food was delicious. The staff did a good job. We had seafood soup, lamb and dessert. It was a nice gesture to have dairy-free options. And now let me talk about the dessert because it was the best dessert I've had in my entire life. It was a delicious skyr cake, topped with some fruit (raspberry, strawberries? And blueberries), some fruit sauce splattered across the plate and some lightly whipped cream accompanying the cake. If I had the chance I would have eaten the whole cake. 10/10.
5 years agoWe had a fabulous meal at Aalto Bistro - it was peaceful and quiet with amazing views. The food was equally amazing and a bargain when compared to other meals in Iceland. Service was great too!
4 years agoThis is a quiet elegant restaurant in the Nordic House. Lunch here is excellent with good service and a nice view of a wildlife pond. We enjoyed a respite from the other tourists in town.
